6th IABSE Young Engineers Colloquium in East Asia

Jointly organized by the IABSE Groups of China, Japan, Korea, and the Hong Kong SAR

BACKGROUND

The IABSE Young Engineers Colloquium (YEC) in East Asia was initiated in 2018 to promote academic exchange and professional collaboration among young engineers. The program includes keynote lectures, design competitions, technical presentations, and networking opportunities.

The YEC has successfully rotated through multiple cities across East Asia:

1st YEC · Oct 24–25, 2018 Tongji University, Shanghai, China

2nd YEC · Nov 7–8, 2019 Tokyo Institute of Technology, Tokyo, Japan

3rd YEC · Jan 19–20, 2024 Seoul National University, Seoul, Korea

4th YEC · Nov 30 – Dec 1, 2024 The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong, China

5th YEC · May 18, 2025 Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan

EVENT INFORMATION 

• Dates: October 29–31, 2026

• Format: Hybrid (On-site + Online)

• Venue: Lecture Hall, Bridge Building, Tongji University, Shanghai

• Online Platform: VooV Meeting (Tencent Meeting). Access details will be emailed to registered online participants.

• Important Deadlines:

Oct. 1: Application Form — paper & design competition applicants

Oct. 25: Final Paper / Design Report

Oct. 25: Registration Form & Registration Fee — all attendees

TIMELINE 

• All attendees are required to submit a registration form, register, and pay the registration fee.

• Applicants for technical papers and the design competition must first submit the appropriate application form by the application deadline. Final papers and design reports should be submitted separately by the final submission deadline.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW (TENTATIVE)

DESIGN COMPERIRION

Theme: Pedestrian/Bicycle Bridge over Suzhou Creek

Design a pedestrian/bicycle bridge across Suzhou River connecting Datian Road and Meiyuan Road areas. The bridge should serve as a symbolic link honoring Shanghai's heritage.
